Cultural Property

About 100 years after Bashō’s death, several hundred poets from Kaga, Ecchū, and Noto provinces contributed funds to build a modest hermitage called Kurokami-an next to the Okina-zuka. A tasteful Bashō Hall with a moss-covered thatched roof was erected, along with a stone tablet carved with a haiku by Bashō’s disciple Rōka Shōnin. It is still used today for poetry and tea ceremony gatherings.
